Preston County is a fairly large, rural, mountainous county with one consolidated high school. Most communities contain some configuration of an elementary and/or middle school.
The ten year plan for our county calls for K-8 schools in the communities and no change for the high school.
At the present time, it is unlikely that a bond or levy would pass to provide funds for new school construction or renovation and a large portion of the budget goes to transportation. Consequently, 69% of our bus runs are over the state guidelines for student travel times.
